Imported by Dick Erath in the mid 1970's, Clone 95 was nearly lost to history due to a paperwork mishap during certification. 30 years later, it was finally planted in the Willamette Valley. Laurent, being an old friend of the late Winemaker, was able to get some of the earliest cuttings. Grafted onto half the 4.39 acre plot we call Block 4H in 2015, Clone 95 is one of the more elusive vines planted at the Hyland Vineyard. The only thing more intriguing than the story of Clone 95, is its bright & complex flavor profile. High toned red fruits, warm spice, and a haunting minerality set this wine apart from the classic "Dijon Clones,” all while its silky structure brings undeniable enjoyment. Erath’s Clone 95 Pinot Noir is one of the rare instances of a suitcase selection planted successfully in Oregon —
the other success being the Coury Clone.
Hyland is fortunate to have both of these relics at their disposal.
Because of this, we are able to share them with all of you.
